Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
